Assistant Rector
The Rev. Clay Riley hails from North Carolina. He attended Virginia Theological Seminary where he concentrated his studies in theology, ethics, and outreach. During Seminary, Clay worked with the Church of the Epiphany, Washington DC in homeless ministries and developed his passion for outreach there. Before Seminary, Rev. Riley graduated from Appalachian State University in 1992, was a member of the United States Coast Guard, the Executive Director of the Arts Council of Carteret County, and a teacher / grant writer for a Charter School serving at risk youth. He and his wife, Maggie Riley, and their two boys Liam and Finn have been with St. Martin’s since June 2011. In their spare time they chase their over-energetic dog and cat. Ann Meyer
Christian Faith Formation Director
Ann's degree in Organizational Management and Development has aided her 24 years of experience planning and implementing children, youth and adult formation activities in churches. She became the Christian Formation Director at St. Martin’s in October of 2005. She is trained as a teacher in both Catechesis of the Good Shepherd and Godly Play, a Journey to Adulthood (6-year youth formation program) teacher/trainer, and an Education for Ministry (EfM) mentor. She has been chair of the Diocesan Christian Formation colleague group called CE-Net, has served on DioSoVa's Executive Board, and is presently the Diocesan Coordinator for EfM. Her interests include writing curriculum, following her children on Facebook, doting on seven grandchildren, spending time with friends, reading, walking, and designing ways to keep parishioners spiritually connected through an internet faith formation site and social media. Parish Administrator
The Parish Administrator serves as office manager or director of operations for St. Martin’s Episcopal Church. With the support of the Rector, this position is responsible for creating, evaluating, communicating and enforcing processes, procedures and policies that support an efficient workflow, a healthy working environment, and fair, equitable and legal practices. Originally from northeastern Ohio, Lora joined the staff of St. Martin's Episcopal Church after completing a career in education here in Virginia. Music Director
Originally from Mobile, Alabama, Phaedra McNorton has been living in the Hampton Roads area for the last five years. A graduate of the New England Conservatory in Boston, Phaedra’s professional engagements have ranged from Opera to Musical Theatre. In 1999, Phaedra sang under the baton of Eduardo Müller of the Metropolitan Opera in the role of Agilea in Lucca, Italy. Other professional engagements include soloist for the AARP conventions at Chicago Symphony Hall and Nellis Airforce Base in Las Vegas. In 2001, Phaedra understudied the role of Emma under Sylvia Rhyne in Jekyll & Hyde at Downtown Cabaret Theatre in Bridgeport. Phaedra was also the Vocal Director at Busch Gardens where she started out as a performer. and then was responsible for casting and rehearsing all mainstage shows.
