I am so enamored of the reaction of the healed man in this chapter. He did not, as we have seen in other healings just pick up his mat and go home. No, he “Jumped up”, enters the temple “leaping and praising God.” Many people, myself included, are waiting for God to heal us, we pray and pray, and when He finally gives us what we so desire, we say “it’s about time.” This man gives us an example of how our reaction should be when we are healed.
Peter and John also give us an example of the humility we should exhibit when we work for the glory of God. They admonish the Israelites in the temple asking why they stare “as though by our own power or piety we had made him walk.” This man could walk; they go on to say, because he had faith in Jesus. “By faith in his name, his name itself has made this man strong.
And so, if our faith is strong enough Jesus will heal us of our physical and mental illnesses, but we have a duty to pronounce it. We have to jump and praise Him so that we also may serve as a witness to this healing.
